Student Placements for 2012-2013 School Year: Fifth Graders

The administration and staff of Cawley Middle School have begun the process of placing students into classes for the 2012-2013 school year. We believe that the proper placement of your child is very important and we carefully consider all relevant information that will enable your child to have a positive school experience. Our goal is to provide a learning environment that will lead to the best possible learning experience for each child.

Grade-level teams, comprised of classroom teachers, special education teachers, guidance counselors and administrators, make the placement decisions. The teams, when making decisions, use all available and appropriate information. Our goal is to provide every opportunity for success for your child when final assignments for next year’s classes are complete. Information about your child’s learning style and your opinions about the kind of environment that you believe would best suit your child may be useful to the placement team.

The placement teams will not consider requests for specific teachers. There will be several changes in team configurations at Cawley next year; therefore, requests for particular teams may not be fulfilled. If you have additional information regarding your child’s learning that should be considered by the placement teams, please submit your comments to Cawley Principal Matt Benson, in writing by May 16, 2012. We will not be able to consider any information received after this date. Thank you for your understanding and support in this process.

Battle of the Books (Coming Soon)

Next year, HMS will begin a new reading incentive program for grades four and five called Battle of the Books. This is a program that once began as a radio show in the 1930’s, and is today being done in schools all over the country. Students participate in a high-energy team competition where they display their knowledge of books they read throughout the year. Several teachers have generously volunteered to become coaches to work with students after school next year. The volunteers are:  Mrs. Stetson, Mrs. Thinnes, Mrs. Brotherson, Ms. Provencher, Mrs. Smagula, and Mrs. Miner. Mrs. Matthews will be working with the coaches to provide guidance for the program. Information will be sent home with students in June.

Summer Enrichment

The Hooksett Summer Enrichment Program offers a rich, hands-on experience for students entering grades 4 through 8. Each class is designed for a specific grade span.

Classes are held Mondays through Thursdays from July 9 to August 2. Some classes are four weeks in length; other offerings are for two weeks. Each day there are two sessions. The first session is from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and the second session is from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Enrollees are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment will be cancelled. Parents will be notified by Wednesday, June 6 if a class has been cancelled. Full refunds will be given if cancelled due to lack of enrollment.

Students’ fees fund the program; classes must be paid in advance. REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 1.

APRIL

April is a rainbow month,

Of sudden springtime showers.

Bright with golden daffodils

and lots of pretty flowers.
